[SUGGESTION] Making mining more useful.
« on: July 18, 2015, 11:03:58 pm »
I think mining should be made useful, this could be done by making weapons like pew pew require resources that can be gathered from the asteroids, or maybe have the gyropod consume fuel from the asteroids for higher speeds, or maybe install a system where props and the like require the use of those asteroid materials. That's pretty much all I can come up with, I'm sure there's more stuff.

Can't make pewpew require resources, if you want that to happen go ask the developer for it. Gyropod is out because diaspora did it and people hated it. Prop purchasing from mining is too similar to SBF, so that's out too. Sorry.

But I had heard you say that pew pew requiring resources is possible, you just have it disabled because it'd break people's dupes. Also, SBF?

Only energy, nothing else. SBF is another type of spacebuild with factions and currency, old and buggy though.

It didn't work very well as you couldn't build anything good without mining for half an hour.

Honestly, mining is pretty useful now that compressors aren't allowed. Also, there's another thread touching on this, but admin events could maybe tie into utilizing mining? Someone who can mine the most in a pre-allotted time? As-is, blox is right in that mining just as a tool to unlock more stuff is kinda difficult and probably wouldn't be a popular decision.

To gain oxygen you can just use a water pump along with an H2O splitter, or use gas systems.

Water pumps only apply where there's water, though, and there are quite a few planets that lack H20 to pump. Off the top of my head I don't remember which of the many resource-iums can convert to water, but I find them to be a bit more multi-purpose than straight-up water pumps.
